For decades, KSTP’s Chief Meteorologist Dave Dahl has kept a watchful eye on the sky, seeing Minnesotans through tornadoes, blizzards, spring flooding and whatever else Mother Nature delivers.

While he is an expert at identifying  the warning signs of inclement weather, Dave is the first to admit that he didn’t spot the symptoms of  skin cancer that were present for nearly two years before he was diagnosed. “This caught me by surprise,” he says about his recent diagnosis. “I wasn’t aware of the signs and waited too long [to seek care].”  Fortunately, his non-melanoma skin cancer was caught and treated in time.

With summer approaching, he recently shared his experience on KSTP-TV to spread the message about skin cancer signs, symptoms and prevention. Take a look:

Given that Dave is an avid motorcyclist, we can’t think of anyone better suited to act as Grand Marshal of our Angels, Hotrods, & Hogs bike and car rally on June 16. In turn, Dave is excited to give back to the cancer community.

“Your organization is one of the most powerful forces needed to defeat this formidable foe we call ‘cancer,’ he says.  “The prayers and support through the camaraderie that Angel Foundation offers is difficult to measure, but the experience is ‘priceless’ for those fortunate enough to be a part of it.”

“My cancer is minor compared to that of many who have been helped by Angel Foundation, but Angels, Hotrods, & Hogs is a great way for me to show my appreciation for all of the prayers and support that I’ve received,” he adds.  “I’m looking forward to a great day of riding!”

We have our own prediction:  the weather will be great for the ride—we anticipate the need for a lot of sunscreen.  After all, we have a meteorologist on our side.
