Giving Hope to Cancer Patients Impacted by COVID-19
Angel Foundation offers immediate and longer-term financial support to struggling local, adult cancer patients. But extraordinary situations, like COVID-19, cause an even greater financial strain. This has led to a dramatic increase in the number of requests for financial assistance.
To meet this unprecedented need, we created Angel In Action, a fund to help lessen the financial impact of the pandemic. So far we have helped over 60 people through this fund. People like Alexis.
I am currently in my 5th line of treatment for stage 3C fallopian cancer. I was diagnosed in May 2017 and have not worked since. Previously, I was the main financial support for my family of 5 consisting of my husband and 3 children. I am now on SSA disability, which was enough money to make our mortgage, but since I was forced onto Medicare from Medical Assistance last November, the monthly premium deducted from my SSA payment makes it so that we come up short of paying our monthly mortgage.
My husband has been working freelance with varying success until just recently he got a position with a wine importer as the director of commerce operations. The company is based out of Florida and imports/distributes Italian wine exclusively. Most of the vineyards are located at the epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis in Italy.
Obviously, business has come to a complete halt and will be for the foreseeable future. Since they sell only wholesale and are not authorized to sell retail, they cannot creatively adjust to the social distancing protocols which have closed restaurants and other places of gathering.
My husband’s position in the company requires frequent international travel, which of course is impossible now. The types of business meetings and wine tastings he directs can not be done virtually.
The grants you provide during this crisis would be very helpful and appreciated fully as we would use it to pay our mortgage.
We are proud to have offered Alexis and her family an Angel in Action grant, providing a glimmer of hope in these challenging times.
