On January 30, Angel Foundation will hold its 14th annual Angel Gala – a night of hope and celebration to raise funds to provide emergency financial assistance, education and support to adults with cancer and their families. Angel Foundation welcomes Joe Schmit, Sports Anchor on KSTP-TV, as the emcee for this very special night.

Joe Schmit has spent the last 30 years of his career in the Twin Cities with KSTP-TV, and during that time has won 17 Emmys from the National Television Academy. “I have covered all the big events but I realized that the stories that have the biggest impact on me are the human stories of people overcoming odds to chase their dreams,” Joe says. “I’ll take a story that gives you goosebumps over a major event any day.”

Joe Schmit is well-known in the Twin Cities for his sports coverage on channel 5, but he is also an author, community leader and cancer survivor. In May 2006, Joe was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, and after several months of chemotherapy in 2008, his cancer is now in remission. Joe also tells his cancer story in his book Silent Impact, which tells many different stories of people who have had an impact on others through their actions.“I learned so much on my cancer journey that I want to share. Cancer does not have to be a negative story. I am lucky and want to help out where I can in the fight to end cancer.”

We are excited to welcome Joe to Angel Gala on January 30 at Hilton Minneapolis. We hope to see you there too!
